Pollen in Real-time

MeteoSwiss has been measuring pollen concentrations in the air for 28 years. These measurements are particularly important for allergy sufferers, who make up more than 20% of the population in Switzerland. Due to recent technological advances, it is now possible to measure pollen in real time. The realization of the automatic pollen measurement network has begun : the dawn of a new era in the tracking of these allergens.

A revolution at the service of users

MeteoSwiss is now launching the stage of implementation of its automatic pollen measurement network in collaboration with the Lucerne-based company Swisens AG, which won last year’s public tender. Its SwisensPoleno Jupiter system, which is based on the principle of detection by holography and was validated in thorough tests in Payerne in the spring, will be used to equip the measuring stations in the future. The first stations will be ready for the 2021 pollen season, and the entire network will be operational from 2022.
